The Conero Park

The Regional Natural Conero Park is a stage of rare beauty that includes a part of coastline and a wide range of hills, with its unique panoramic views and its ancient history. This area includes the municipalities of Ancona, Camerano, Numana and Sirolo.

The Mount Conero, 572 meters (about 1876 ft) high and overlooking the sea, is a unique promontory in the stretch from Trieste to Gargano. The presence of abandoned quarries, makes the Conero park an open book on the geological history of this area and on the entire stratigraphic sequence of the Umbria and Marche Apennines.

Opened in 1987, the Conero Park is a protected area where you can walk on the 18 trails that pass through the woods, alone or with experienced guides, where you can observe the transit of migratory birds such as peregrine falcons and night birds of prey, where you can visit precious historical and artistic relics, such as the Watchtower and the Romanesque church of Saint Mary in the bay of Portonovo.
In this area there are many wineries and farms where you can taste and buy the exquisite Rosso Conero wine and the best products of the territory (honey, olive oil, legumes, etc.).

The Mount Conero takes its name from its ancient product, the Komaròs, for the ancient Greeks, the arbutus unedo or Strawberry tree or "marine cherry tree" for us.

The arbutus unedo is a typical shrub of the Mediterranean scrub.
