Recanati and its hills

We suggest you to leave for a moment the mount Conero behind and immerse yourself in the gentle hills of the hinterland to discover the atmospheres recalled by the poet Leopardi.

Recanati is easily reachable from the coastline: panoramic views from provincial roads that pass through the Conero Park, leading to the state highway ss16, in south direction.

To discover Recanati we suggest to start from eighteenth-century Leopardi palace, birthplace of the poet, where nowadays his descendants still live in and located in the square "Saturday in the village".

The exhibition of objects and manuscripts of the writer allows to retrace his life; the rich library of his father allows to understand his education. From here a marked itinerary leads up to Mount Tabor, the famous "hill of The Infinite" where a breathtaking landscape can be admired.
Returning to Leopardi palace you can reach via Roma, where at the end of it you can go down in via Calcagni and via Cavour; along this road the church of Saint Agostino can be admired: its bell tower is the old tower in the poem ‘The lonely sparrow’.
Going ahead you can reach the center of the town in Piazza Leopardi, where there is the municipal building behind the monument dedicated to the great poet. The building houses the Museum Beniamino Gigli, another obligated stop: here stage costumes, pictures and memorabilia of the great tenor from Recanati are preserved.

From Piazza Leopardi, where the ancient village tower is visible, you can pass through corso Persiani and at the end of it there is the street leading to the Cathedral. Near the cathedral, which houses the Diocesan Museum, it is situated Colloredo Mels villa, location of the Civic Art Gallery, which possesses a prestigious collection of Lorenzo Lotto paintings, including the famous Annunciation. A visit to these precious treasures concludes our itinerary.
